What is United Way?

United Way of Atlantic County is an independent, volunteer-driven organization that conducts a once-a-year workplace fundraising campaign to support some 60 programs at 39 local health and human services agencies, helping thousands of people in need throughout our community. Each year our funded agencies are evaluated and reviewed to ensure the productivity of their provided service to make sure that your gift truly makes a positive impact.

How are United Way Dollars Used?

United Way of Atlantic County positively impacts the quality of life for more than 100,000 Atlantic County residents each year by supporting dozens of programs that

  • Reduce substance abuse & mental wellness
  • Provide basic needs and increase self-sufficiency
  • Support community health issues
  • Foster safer homes and neighborhoods

How Does United Way Know What to Fund?

Every several years United Way conducts a Community Needs Assessment to determine what the human service needs are in Atlantic County. Through residential phone interviews, focus groups and mail surveys, we work to pinpoint the issues and concerns of the residents in our community. This is a tremendous help to us as we review the funding requests that we receive each year. It helps us to prioritize funding and ultimately help those who need help the most.

Why Give to United Way?

As you know there are so many great causes out there that it can be hard to decide who to give your dollars to. By giving to United Way, your money helps fund wide range of agencies and services instead of just a single cause. Volunteers closely monitor these programs to assure effective and efficient use of donor dollars. Plus, United Way dollars have a local impact – helping improve the lives of families, friends and neighbors here in Atlantic County.
